Jira Software: the best for active development teams

The Jira service has gained considerable popularity in the IT sector. At the same time, the system’s broad functionality has enabled it to spread to other industries as well. Jira is currently one of the most popular platforms for project management.

What is Jira Software

The Jira platform is a set of tools for organizing the work of agile teams. Among other functionalities, the service allows tracking software errors (bugs), that is why it was first of all widely spread in IT-companies. However, software defect processing is only a small part of Jira’s capabilities. The platform is actively implemented as a project management system. The proposed functionality is relevant for all companies that in one way or another use Agile principles in their work.

The first release of Jira Software took place in 2002. The system was created by the Australian company Atlassian, which is a prominent player in the market of IT-oriented products. Jira is written in the Java programming language.

The main features of Jira are:

  • Scheduling and formalizing tasks of various types;
  • Assignment and tracking of tasks;
  • Reporting and analytics.
  • These three points, implemented properly, allow organizing productive and transparent team work. Managers can track the overall processes and progress of each employee. Team members control their assignments, communicate with colleagues to solve related tasks, and schedule employment.

There are three main templates available for working in Jira Software:

  • Scrum – for teams working in a sprint schedule;
  • Kanban – for regulating workflow involving continuous flow;
  • Bug Tracking – a template for managing tasks and software defects.
